Step 2 · Review How Your Flight Pass Works

Airline Employee Companion Travel Is Space-Available

Before making plans, review how employee companion designation works. This is not a confirmed airline ticket: eligibility and benefits depend on the sponsoring airline, and standby travel never guarantees a seat.

What a flight pass can — and cannot — do

BuyMyFlightPass is an independent concierge, not an airline or an airline-issued ticket. The arrangement described here concerns eligibility for an airline employee's designated travel benefits, subject to that employer's rules and approval. A standby listing is a request for an available seat, not a reservation or a promise that you will fly.

Best suited to travelers who can shift dates and routes, carry a backup plan, and accept that an employee's eligibility or airline policy may change. For a wedding, visa deadline, cruise connection, medical appointment, or other fixed arrival, buy a confirmed ticket instead. Check the specific airline's current companion eligibility, permitted routes, priority, charges, baggage and cabin rules before relying on any trip.

An employee designation is not the same thing as Southwest's consumer Rapid Rewards Companion Pass, which lets a qualifying member choose someone to accompany their own paid or points flight. Airline and fare benefits differ; see Southwest's published fare rules as one example, not as rules for every airline or an employee pass.

Start with our standby guide, risks and limitations, or pre-purchase checklist. For provider-specific answers, see the full FAQ.

What You Get With Your 12-Month Flight Pass

Space-Available Travel

If approved under an employee's program, you may list for eligible flights. A listing never guarantees boarding; charges depend on the airline and route.

Cabin Assignment

Cabin eligibility and standby priority depend on the operating airline's rules. An open premium seat does not guarantee an upgrade or a confirmed seat.

Baggage Rules

Carry-on and checked-bag allowances and charges vary by airline, route and travel classification. Check the rules for each itinerary.

Eligible Routes

International and partner-carrier travel may be available under specific employee rules; an airline alliance does not automatically grant access to every partner.

Airport Lounge Access

Do not assume lounge access comes with employee companion travel. Any access must be verified separately under the lounge's own entry rules.

Eligibility, charges, routes, cabin and baggage rules can differ materially by airline, employee benefit and operating carrier. Ask for the current rules for your proposed itinerary.

How Booking Your Flights Actually Works

1

Text-To-Book (Your First Flights)

For your first 2–4 flights, you'll text your dates and routes to our airline booking manager. They can help request a listing and check available information, but cannot secure a standby seat in advance.

2

Self-Booking Access (After You Prove You're Solid)

After your first flights, self-service listing may be available if the sponsoring airline permits it. Access and payment steps depend on its current rules; no portal access is guaranteed.

3

Standby vs Confirmed Tickets

A standby listing is space-available, with airline-specific taxes and charges. If a separate locked-in ticket option is offered, quoted pricing is around 50% of normal price and a seat must be confirmed by the issuing airline; a standby listing or HK notation alone is not a guarantee.

4

Travel Like an Employee (Without Being One)

If designated and approved, you travel under the sponsoring employee's rules, not as an airline employee yourself. Airline policy governs eligible flights, charges, seating, upgrades and any lounge access.

An employee companion listing is conditional and never guarantees boarding. Keep a backup plan and purchase a confirmed ticket for time-critical travel.

Rules, Risk & Expectations (Read This Carefully)

Protecting The Employee & Your Access

Misuse can put an employee's travel benefits or employment at risk, depending on airline policy. Here are common problems we want to avoid:

  • ×Logging in from multiple IP addresses or sharing logins
  • ×Ignoring instructions or standby rules
  • ×Showing up late, missing check-in, or no-showing
  • ×Acting entitled or arguing with staff
  • ×Dressing inappropriately for non-rev travel
  • ×Posting passes or internal screenshots online
  • ×Overbooking / booking too many flights back-to-back

If you can't follow simple instructions and stay low-key, this program is not for you.

Standby Mindset

  • •Standby never guarantees a seat; availability and priority vary by flight
  • •Business/First upgrades are a bonus, not a guarantee
  • •Always have backup flights, routes, or dates
  • •Avoid peak holidays unless you're very flexible

Booking Etiquette

  • •Submit flight requests at least 4 days / 72+ hours in advance for best results
  • •Be clear, concise, and respectful when messaging the booking manager
  • •Don't spam, double-text, or keep asking the same questions after answers are given
  • •Show up on time, dress presentably, and never mention 'hookups' at the gate

Flight Pass FAQ

Everything you need to know before you apply.

This service helps arrange a potential designation under an airline employee's companion-travel benefit. BuyMyFlightPass is an independent concierge, not an airline or the issuer of a ticket. Any travel is subject to the airline's approval, eligible routes, charges and space-available rules; a listing is not a confirmed seat.

Matching may involve employees at United, Delta or American, subject to availability and eligibility. Do not assume access to every route or all alliance partners: employee companion privileges on another carrier depend on the sponsoring airline's specific interline arrangements and the operating airline's rules.

Pricing ranges vary: United Airlines is approximately $5,500–$10,000 per year, Delta Air Lines approximately $6,500–$10,000, and American Airlines approximately $6,500–$10,000. Exact pricing depends on the specific airline employee, routes needed, and availability at the time of matching. Your final price is confirmed before you commit.

Domestic U.S. flights: typically $5–$40 round trip, sometimes close to zero on shorter routes. International flights: usually 10–30% of a standard ticket price, often in the $80–$300 range depending on destination. These are estimates, not a universal airline tariff: applicable government taxes, airline service charges and other costs vary by airline, travel classification, itinerary and date. Confirm the full charges before listing.

Possibly, if the operating airline permits companions in a premium cabin. Cabin assignment depends on eligibility, priority and available seats at departure. An empty seat does not mean an upgrade will be offered, and any charges depend on airline rules.

There is no universal baggage allowance for an employee companion. Carry-on and checked-bag rules, charges and restrictions depend on the operating airline, route and travel classification. Check that airline's current rules before packing.

International travel may be possible if the sponsoring airline's rules allow the route and operating carrier. Alliance membership does not automatically give companions access to all partners. Taxes and fees are typically $80 to $300+ depending on the destination, but actual charges vary; verify entry and transit documents, eligible routing and total charges before travel.

Only airports and routes eligible under your sponsoring airline's companion rules and any applicable partner agreement. A carrier serving an airport does not itself mean you can list there. More scheduled departures may offer alternatives, but no airport guarantees standby availability.

Do not assume so. Employee companion and other non-revenue travel often has different earning rules from paid tickets. Check the actual operating airline's loyalty terms for the travel classification before expecting miles or status credit.

Ask for the sponsoring airline's current benefit rules. Eligible trips, routes and any limits depend on the program; each listing is subject to space, priority and continuing eligibility. A 12-month arrangement does not guarantee any number of completed flights.

A standby listing requests a space-available seat; priority and assignment depend on the airline and can change up to departure. A confirmed ticket issued by an airline is different from a standby listing. Do not assume an internal status code or a listing is a confirmed ticket; check the ticket and reservation with its issuing carrier.

Do not assume there are no restrictions. Any blackout periods or restricted routes depend on the sponsoring airline's employee-travel rules. Even where a flight is eligible, holidays and other busy periods can leave no space for standby travelers.

If the sponsoring employee leaves or loses travel eligibility, companion access can change or end. We work with a network of multiple employees and can often reassign your pass to another employee at the same airline, subject to eligibility and availability. If reassignment is not possible, you receive prorated credit toward a new pass. Review your signed agreement for applicable terms.

No. Your Flight Pass is strictly personal and non-transferable. It is tied to your legal identity and passport. Attempting to transfer or share the pass violates the terms of the arrangement.

You will need to provide your full legal name as it appears on your government ID or passport, date of birth, phone number, email address, and a copy of your passport or government-issued photo ID. A light background check may be required. The onboarding process is straightforward and typically completed in a single session.

You receive a full refund. There is no financial risk to applying. We only move forward when there is a confident, professional match on both sides.

No. A standby listing is not a confirmed ticket. If you need certainty for a deadline or connection, buy a confirmed ticket separately and verify its status with the airline. Savings or availability are not guaranteed.

No. International applicants are welcome. The application, contract, and payment are conducted in English and USD. A valid passport is required for travel, and you may be subject to standard entry and visa requirements for your destination countries.
